Hoops for Hope – A Success!

The purpose of this email is to give you a final update on Hoops for Hope.  The event was once again a success!  40 teams competed (with 200 students being on teams).  A total of $1600 was raised for Sick Kids Hospital (the charity of choice this year).  $1075 was raised by students for the day, with an additional $515 raised through concession stand sales.  Congratulations to the winning team: the Gimmie B’s.

The event was a success due to the level of student participation and behaviour.  Overall sportsmanship was the highlight of the day.  Many times, we saw more experienced basketball players choosing to pass to other players on their team in order to involve everyone as much as possible.  Students kept the purpose of the day at the forefront: raising money for a worthwhile charity, being physically active, and having fun.  Students, when not directly playing in the tournament, either relaxed on the side hill or played soccer on the centre yard – and there were no issues here, either!  Wonderful job, Rams!

Thanks to Ms. Wright for the overall organization of the day.  Thanks to Mr. Hanley, Mr. Cox, Mr. McMillan, and Ms Clench for refereeing all of the games.  There was somewhere in the range of 80 games played, which is a lot of reffing!  Thanks to all of the other staff involved (from DJing to supervision), as without this the day simply cannot happen.
