This post is intended for families with a Grade 6 student(s).
Attached to this post is a letter outlining general information regarding the EQAO Assessment.
Students will most likely complete the assessment at our school between May 26 and June 9. The tentative specific dates that our grade 6 students will be writing the letter is on the attached letter.
Some of the basic information you will want to know is:
• there is a Language Assessment and a Math Assessment; each of the assessments are divided into 4 sections (normally students complete 1 of the assessments each day that they write)
• the EQAO assessment is not the “be all and end all” of assessments; however, it does provide extremely useful data, especially in terms of overall and year by year trends; as a school, staff analyze the data to help inform our practices
• the EQAO assessment does not count towards your child’s report card marks
• please do your best to avoid booking appointments during the time that your child will be writing the assessment; however, we know that this is not always possible
• if your child does miss a portion of the assessment, they can write it on another day (this inevitably happens for a few students and it is something we have dealt with many times over the years)
How To Prepare Your Child For EQAO Writing Days
• students have already or will complete a practice EQAO online assessment which is setup precisely like the actual assessment they will complete
• as with any school day, a good breakfast is always great preparation for the day!
• get a good night’s sleep
• while we want our students to do their best, we certainly don’t want them to be overly stressed about the assessments; encourage your child to do their best but to not stress being perfect
