BMLSS students competed at OFSAA Track and Field Championships

From June 7 to 9, three Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School (BMLSS) students competed at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Track and Field Championships in London.

The team, which included Grade 9 student, Mitchell Jibb, Grade 10 student, Ben Hewick, and Grade 11 student, Sydney Freeman, competed against about 3,000 athletes from 850 schools across the province.

The results from the competitions were:

  • Jibb competed at the novice boys level and finished seventh in the shot put competition and twelve in the discus throw competition.
  • Hewick competed at the junior boys level and finished eleventh in the javelin competition.
  • Freeman competed as a first year senior in both the girls sprint and distance hurdles and finished fifth in the 100 meter hurdles and won bronze in the 400 meter hurdles.

“This was Sydney’s fourth medal in three years!” said BMLSS teacher and track and field coach, Corbie Kent. “Congratulations to Sydney on this impressive achievement. These students have made our Lakers proud!”
